Microsoft: Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices will be upgraded to Windows 10

Microsoft will upgrade all its new named brand Lumia windows phone 8 to upcoming windows phone 10. They have confirmed this on twitter account of Lumia. Microsft is not going to repeat the mistake they have done with windows phone 7 and 7.5. They didn’t give chance to windows phone 7 and 7.5 users to upgrade to windows phone 8. Due to which their customer base reduced from wp 7 users.

Responding to a customer’s question on the topic, Microsoft tweeted, “We plan to upgrade all Windows Phone 8 devices to Windows 10 in the future.” Microsoft’s next big operating system remains in early development, so the company obviously isn’t revealing details as to when that update will arrive.

We should caution that technically speaking, Microsoft’s Twitter account is not necessarily their press channel, but it is rather official. Still, we are currently not aware of any technological limitations as to why current phones could not be updated, reaffirming the @Lumia tweet.

Although Microsoft has confirmed on their twitter account, but still we can’t confirm which Lumia device will get the update or not. It is much too early to start speculating about update timeframes, carriers, and which devices will get the Windows 10 update.

However, it is looking very likely that all Windows Phone 8 Lumia’s will be getting that update sometime in 2015.

Still, the direct confirmation should allow Lumia owners to breathe a sigh of relief and know that history won’t repeat itself. Microsoft enraged its small but loyal base of Windows Phone 7 users when it revealed existing devices wouldn’t make the jump to Windows Phone 8 in 2012.

The underpinnings between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 10 aren’t so drastically different, so another cutoff wasn’t expected. But a promise that every last Lumia running Windows Phone 8 will get Microsoft’s latest software is still good to hear.

Notably, recent reports had indicated Microsoft is already working on Windows 10 for handset devices, claiming Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 will include the rollout of Cortana to more regions, a data toggle in the Action Centre, sortable settings, and more. The third update was claimed to be will be Windows 10. Unfortunately, here also the rollout dates were not known.
